Savannah Restaurants Part 2 - Tybee Island

I was recently sharing some of my favorite restaurants on Tybee Island and remembered a few that I forgot to post on my other Savannah posts. I figured I would just make a post for Tybee Island restaurants so that you can have them all in one spot! One of the great things about Tybee is that they have so few “chain” restaurants. I know there’s an Arby’s (which has been closed for construction for awhile) but beyond that I can’t think of another one. So in a way you can’t go too wrong. It just depends on what kind of place you feel like. Many restaurants on Tybee are typical beach restaurants – bars that serve seafood and burgers and quesadillas. Most of these aren’t on my list but you definitely can find them, especially near the pier.

The popular tourist spot is the Crab Shack (http://www.thecrabshack.com/). It has also been known to be a popular stop for any celebrities in the area. It's just off the highway when you come onto the island. You'll see signs. They're motto is "Where the Elite eat in their bare feet". They’re complete with alligators and tiki torches.

One of my favorites is North Beach Bar & Grill (http://northbeachbarandgrill.net). It is between the lighthouse and the beach. There's a parking lot for the beach that they're in. It's basically a shack that's good for seafood and Jamaican type food. I love it for the beach shack atmosphere. I don’t think they have AC, just a screened in dining area and a patio with an outdoor bar. It’s simple but sometimes exactly what you want at the beach.

For a nice dinner out on the island, the popular place is the Sundae Cafe (sundaecafe.com). It is a nicer, Italian place that has the best desserts on the island. The restaurant is actually part of a filling station shopping building but it’s nicer inside. They're kind of small so you might want to check with them on reservations especially for a large party.

For a sunset dinner, check out AJ's Dockside ( ajsdocksidetybee.com) which is on the marsh. I go there more for the views than the food. But it's not bad. Also Cafe Loco (which is now Coco's Sunset Grille http://www.cocostybee.com/) is out on the west side of the island. You have to drive like you're going off the island and it would be on the south side of the highway. It's part of a marina and a place where you can buy fresh seafood if you want to cook it yourself. It's got more of a bar like atmosphere but I like the place. Apparently they’ve recently changed names and possibly renovated the place.

If you're down at the southern part of Tybee and want some good food, check out Fannie's on the Beach (fanniesonthebeach.com/ ). They have good quesadillas, pizza, seafood, mixed drinks, and upstairs decks that are great when the weather's nice. It's a good place to take the family.

A great place for cocktails, brunch, or a bite to eat is Tybee Island Social Club (http://tybeeislandsocialclub.com/). Their menu changes often. Be warned though, if you order the seafood nachos - they're huge! Like the size of a pizza. Definitely to share.
A lot of these places feature bands and live music. You might want to check out the schedule before you go.

Our favorite pizza on the island is Hucapoo's (https://hucapoos.com/ ). They have a definite "dive-bar" atmosphere (they were in 2017's "Gifted" movie) but the pizza is good. There's plenty of TVs for sports and it's a laid-back atmosphere. We like the Honkey pizza with chicken.

The Deck (https://www.thedecktybee.com/) is the only actual beachfront restaurant and bar. They're newer on the island but are owned by the group that owns Collins Quarter in Savannah. The food is good and the location is nice. You can walk up from the beach or drive there. Just check their hours before you go, sometimes they're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Their hours change throughout the year.

For good coffee on the island, check out Tybean (https://www.tybeans.com/) They have coffee, pastries, and a deck you can sit on while enjoying your coffee.

If you want to have a good listing of Tybee restaurants and a map of locations, with some menus, check out the magazine, “Where to Eat at the Beach”. You can find it online here: http://tybeeisland.com/wheretoeat/
I hope you enjoy Tybee as much as I do!
