Guide to Getting Away from the Sunnyside Traveler

So recently we were able to go to the Florida Keys again and it was just as enjoyable as before. I must say, if you have never been to the Florida Keys, or if your only experience was Key West, you really should try to make the trip. They're so unique. It just makes me happy to see the beautiful water in so many shades of blue when you cross over the bridge. We didn't get a chance this time to try many new places but we enjoyed visiting the places we have been before. Just wanted to let you know that I updated some of my past posts and will be working on updating more. Let me know if any links don't work or if something is out of date.  Also, I came across this great site for travel to Florida: Florida Rambler . This site has some great ideas and suggestions for experiencing the best, lesser-known parts of Florida. I hope to use their Florida Keys by mile marker this spring when we go back to Islamorada. I'm also excited about visiting Pigeon Key and seeing some of the history of the Keys. I'll let you know how it is! Hope you find an enjoyable way to make it through this winter! 

The Florida Keys is one of my favorite places to visit. I was fortunate enough to visit there often while growing up and recently have been able to go down there a couple of times. I highly recommend for anyone to make the trip down there. It can actually be a fairly cheap trip, depending on your activities. One thing I’ve learned about the Florida Keys is that it’s actually like visiting a small town, rural area. Everything is more laid back in the keys. Dressing up is wearing your good sandals and you need to expect to not get anywhere quickly. There’s only one main road connecting the Florida Peninsula to Key West, Hwy 1. The highest the speed limit goes on that road is 55 (I believe). And it’s not surprising to get stuck behind a RV or tractor trailer or someone just enjoying the view. But that’s what you need to learn to do while driving through the Keys, enjoy the view. The view of the Atlantic and “Bayside” (the Gulf of Mexico) is only occasionally interrupted. I love how it l...
